Dear President Trump, Why do people say Melania is so unhappy? I just think she is serious. No fluff. No bs. Melania Trump has been photographed smiling while promoting her “Be Best” campaign. But eagle-eyed netizens have noticed how rarely she smiles whenever she’s out in public with her husband, Donald Trump. Initially, netizens attributed the serious look on the FLOTUS’s face to possible marital problems. However, “Free, Melania” author Kate Bennett clarified that this isn’t the case. Since the first lady is from Slovenia, she is used to not expressing nongenuine smiles. This means that when she doesn’t feel like smiling, she won’t force herself to do so to make others think that she’s happy. “Maintaining a smile merely for effect was not a Melania thing to do. She was not a faker- not then, not during the campaign, and not as the first lady. The number of times people ask me, ‘what’s wrong with her? Why does she look so angry?’ What most people don’t understand is Melania’s heritage and country in which she was born,” Bennett said. In June, the FLOTUS made headlines after she was photographed seemingly looking angry and upset while at the Trump Tower. President Trump’s other children had huge smiles on her faces at that time. Bennett said the POTUS’s wife wasn’t necessarily unhappy during the outing. She was simply doing what felt natural for her. Meanwhile, body language expert Patti Wood previously told Refinery29 that Melania doesn’t look happy, relaxed, and at ease with the POTUS because she is oftentimes photographed without a smile on her face. Wood said that the lack of expression on the first lady’s face suggests that she’s actually a very emotional person. She and President Trump also rarely hold hands. “The tension in her body, mouth, and face show that she’s normally a very emotional person and is having to contain it. She's taking all of her energy to contain how she really feels. ... She shows anger; there's a glare in her eyes a lot when she's with him,” Wood explained. Magnificent Melania She is the real deal. She doesn't need to smile if she doesn't want to. I can appreciate that. She is genuine. Down to earth. Zach A.
